New 2013 Pininfarina Alfa Romeo Sports Car Spider Concept

New 2013 Pininfarina Alfa Romeo Sports Car Spider Concept Pininfarina, an Italian car design studio, has released to the public the teaser image of their new Alfa Romeo concept. Pininfarina turns 80 years-old this year. As part of celebrating this important milestone the company will unveil this two-seater spider concept pictured here at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show in March. It will be presented as a tribute to its long relationship with Alfa Romeo. The unveiling coincides with Alfa's 100th anniversary so it is doubly fitting. The design has been managed by Lowie Vermeersch, head of Pininfarina’s style centre, and the rear reflects the old Alfa Romeo Duetto model, with its cuttlefish-bone inspiration.

A revival of the Alfa Duetto is an exciting proposition, and the prototype will be the same two-seater Spider vehicle. It will have a longitudinal engine placed in the front and rear-wheel drive. No production plan has been established as yet, so we can’t say if this could be an eventual replacement to the current Alfa Spider.

Apart from the obvious not much else is said or revealed about the car. But from this solitary sketch it can be noted that the current 8C Spider has some serious styling competition. The long sloping bonnet, two-door configuration and short rear overhangs are the main signs of a classic roadster. Whether this traditionalist approach will be kept intact with a soft folding roof remains to be seen.

Gloria, the IED sedan for Alfa Romeo

Just recently presented at the 83rd Geneva Motor Show, the child born from the collaboration between the European Design Institute (IED) and the well-known car producer Alfa Romeo is one of the most sophisticated examples of Italian leadership in automobile design. With a name standing for brilliance, grandeur and fineness, Gloria is a proud homage to sportiness and sleekness at the wheel, at the same time representing a strong "Made in Italy" image.
The project was an important opportunity to involve the school's young designers in developing a product able to reach the American and Asian consumers, markets in which there is a steadfast perception of the quality of Italian creativity. The remake of a classic Alfa sedan is the perfect symbol for elegance and prestige, matched to the incomparable innovation and comfort that the brand constantly displays in its models.
The twenty brilliant students of the Master of Arts in Transportation Design at IED were coordinated and supported at every stage of their work by the Alfa Romeo Style Center, with the help of presentations, informative briefings and modeling sessions. The final result of this tight collaboration is a bold sport sedan with smooth, sculpture-like lines running along its almost five meters of length, potentially powered by the latest generation V6 or V8 bi-turbo engine. The concept that led to its completion duplicates what really happens during the handling of a project in Alfa Romeo, dividing the process into several smaller stages all of which require assessment and approval. Twenty different design proposals were sketched and gradually brought down to ten 1:4 scale clay models, making it easier to decide on the single, final vision which best fit the measurement, style and technical criteria of the producer company.
